Teaching/Work Opportunities
Assistantships frequently provide funding. However, students are not obligated to prepare and teach lecture courses.
Tuition Fees
None. The University of Bonn is a public university, so it doesn’t charge tuition fees. However, students must pay a semester contribution of approximately 330 EUR, known as the social contribution. This fee includes a student transit pass for public transportation and mandatory accident insurance, among other benefits.
Academic Admission Requirements
Admission requires a Master of Science degree with a thesis. Exceptionally, an outstanding Bachelor’s degree may also be considered.
Language Requirements
Applicants need to provide proof of English proficiency. This proof can be a test score (such as TOEFL or IELTS), a note indicating previous instruction in English, or a record of English courses taken. The expected proficiency level is equivalent to a TOEFL score of 550 points (written test) or 80 points (Internet-based test). Instruction is in English, and students can write their dissertation and exams in English. However, BIGS members are expected to learn some German.
